Fishing at Tinnudir<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

These tips are not necessarily for working on your hobby but for catching “edible” fish. Edible fish are needed for crafting level 131 regeneration food and a few other items. Edible fish include all fish with a green background icon (yellow names) and all trout (purple names).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your character (you) has never fished, you need to visit a Hobby Master. There are several but my favorite is in the Scholar’s Stair Archive in Bree. Your reward is one proficiency point and a fishing pole. You can earn 10 proficiency points per day. You must have a proficiency rating of about 45 to catch edible fish at Tinnudir. So if you have never fished, it’ll take you at least 5 days to start catching them. At about the same proficiency level, you’ll start catching trout. If your character is under level 30, you’ll need to fish in a lower level area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To begin, use your extra skill bar set to slot your “bait”, your fishing pole and the weapon that is displaced by the pole. If you dual wield or carry a shield, you’ll need to slot both items – a fishing pole is a 2-handed weapon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re fishing in a higher level spot, you might want to put a couple of skills here in case you’re attacked. (I also use this bar for some emotes.)<\/p>\n\n\n

My favorite place to fish for food is the Tinnudir boat dock; it’s also an excellent place to level up your hobby. You’ll find an abundance of perch, golden mullet and at least 5 species of trout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walk up to the water, switch to your other skill set and click your pole to equip it. Tap your 1 key (or click the bait) to cast your line. WATCH THE BOBBER. It’ll dance around in the current a little and sometimes you’ll get a nibble but when the fish bites, it goes under. You can also watch your character, when a fish takes the hook, the ‘toon moves his\/her feet. When the fish takes the bait, tap your 1 key again. As soon as the fish is in the bag, tap it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Higher level fishing poles do not add proficiency points, rather they allow you to catch more of the fish that do. Basic Fishing Rod, Yew Fishing Rod (+1 Fishing), Well-crafted Yew Fishing Rod (+3 Fishing), Lebethron Fishing Rod (+4 Fishing), Well-crafted Lebethron Fishing Rod (+5 Fishing), Rohirric Fishing Rod (+8 Fishing), Exquisite Elven Fishing Rod (+10 Fishing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over all, I found that starting a brand new fisherman took about 25 to 30 successful casts to get my 10 proficiency points for the day. Using a ‘toon that was over 49 points, it took, on average, 30 minutes to get my 10 points and at least 10 edible fish.<\/p>\n\n\n

Starting with a level 132 character with a 150 proficiency – a timed 30 minute fishing expedition at the Tinnudir boat dock netted me 9 proficiency points, 18 edible fish and six trophies. The higher your proficiency points, the harder it is to get them because you need higher level fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t forget to slot your weapons when you’re done and be sure you don’t sell them when you sell your trash.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
